The Men’s Club William “Bill” Phalen Memorial Citizenship Award is made to high school seniors that embody the virtues of our Covenant Community.

The JGS Men's Club William "Bill" Phalen Memorial Citizenship Award.
Since 1994, each year the Men's Club has offered the Citizenship Award based on the candidates participation within the church and the greater community in JGS's three virtues: Hospitality, Stewardship, and Spirituality. These awards are designed to assist graduating High School Seniors of the JGS Community in their pursuit of advanced education in fields of their choice. Applications are evaluated by the Awards Committee on an anonymous basis and the award(s) are disbursed to the candidate(s) with the highest overall evaluation(s).

Our Men's Club
Want to get more active in the parish? Thinking about joining one of the parish ministries? The good news is that if you are over 18 and male, you are already a member of our Men's Club ministry. Getting active is as simple as showing up at our monthly meetings. The Men's Club ministry is a unique ministry at the parish. Our activities are focused on assisting the pastor by maintaining the parish grounds and assisting community members in need. All of our fundraising is dedicated to supporting our Citizenship Award and other community purposes, which benefits parish youth. This was held on October 13 with over 46 parish men joining together for fellowship for religious talk and meal. See you at the 2025 event.

Bill was always a strong advocate for the youth, not only in our church community, but also throughout Calvert County with his many years of service as a member and past president of the Calvert County School Board. He would always make it a point to attend the many high school plays, graduations, and other school events throughout the years. Because of his generosity to our youth and with the blessing of his family we felt it most appropriate to name the citizenship award in his name in 2021.
