What is Safe Nights?
Safe Nights is a rotating winter shelter program for people experiencing homelessness, hosted by a different church community each week. We are responsible to organizing and staffing the shelter for one week to cook meals, server meals, and monitor the shelter in the evening and overnight.Volunteers typically sign up for one or two shifts during the week.
How can you assist and sign up?
Watch bulletin and flocknotes for dates for next winter.
Respond to link in flocknote to sign up for volunteer slots.
Why this is Important
It's easy to overlook the housing challenges others face—especially when we're warm, safe, and surrounded by community. But right here in our own area, many individuals are living without stable housing, especially during the coldest months of the year.
While local shelters like Project Echo in Prince Frederick offer vital services, the demand for safe beds often exceeds availability. That’s where we, as a faith community, can make a real difference.
Each winter, JGS will again join with other local churches in Safe Nights, a rotating shelter program that provides food, warmth, and overnight accommodations to neighbors experiencing homelessness.
What does it take?
Just a few hours of your time.
When we each give a little—whether it’s preparing a meal, staying overnight, offering conversation, or helping with setup—we create something powerful together: an entire season of shelter and hope.
This is more than volunteering. It's living out our values, showing up for others, and reminding people that they are not forgotten.
